Elspeth’s offerings
for Teach at the
Beach are entitled A NEW MYTHOLOGY.
For the past 2000 years, at least, the Great Myths have guided and
guarded western culture. The Greek and Roman myths, the Norse
myths, the Judeo-Christian myths, even tribal traditional tales and
children's stories - these are the messages which have pointed the Way
for our behavior toward the Divine, toward each other, and toward the
earth.
However, in this time we no longer regard them as "truth.". They are no
longer valid guides. We must find or create new myths. We will
shape our future by deciding how we want to be - make our new road by
walking it.
Definitions of "MYTH"
1) A pattern of beliefs expressing (often symbolically) the
characteristics or prevalent attitudes in a group or culture.
2) A traditional story of ostensibly historical events that serves to
unfold part of the worldview of a people, or explain a practice,
belief, or natural phenomenon.
This set of working classes is intended to begin the creation of
a New Mythology . There will be less lecture and more group work
on what and how and whyever!
Important:
Each student is to bring to class at least three pieces of legend,
myth, or story which carries some important or valuable message. You
may bring more than three.
We will examine these to find what makes them
useful at this time of our development. From these, and other
ideas which we evolve, we will make a Beginning. This work will
continue for a long time, perhaps years. Your contribution is for the
ages to come.
SACRED RITUAL - Elspeth will facilitate a three-evening series
(Sunday through Tuesday) on the nature and construction of Sacred
Ritual. This group will create a sea-side ritual to be held on
Thursday evening.
Teacher,
pastoral Counselor,
irrepressible storyteller - Elspeth is
an honored Elder in the Pagan community. She is co-founder of The
Haven Way: an eco-spiritual path of personal and planetary
transformation. Elspeth is a
living example of the messages she brings: a 78-year-old
great-grandmother who travels over the country in Harvey, the RV, to
teach her lessons. She carries native
blood and is a member of the Echota Cherokee
Tribe.
Elspeth holds the
Certificate of Shamanic Practitioner from The
Church of Earth Healing. All her other training is experiential, and
her learning received directly from the Source.
Her workshops
reflect her primary concerns: healing as a
multi-dimensional spiritual path, the unrecognized value of the older
woman, the integral relationship between humans and other beings, all
this combined with our power and ability to create a world of
compassion, justice and sustainability. Her teachings take
many forms: workshops at events, speeches,
postings on her online group “Elspeth’s Roadies,” You Tube videos, and
her meditation CD, 'Out of the Forest.' You may also access her
current information at her web site
When she is not
being Crone-on-the-Road, Elspeth is at home in wild
and wonderful West Virginia with her beloved Nybor and their fur friends
-Maggie and Max.

Nybor's
offering for Teach at the Beach will be DIVINATION - THeory
and Practice
Beginning with a history of divinatory practices, we will examine some
traditional forms of divination; including Astrology, Crystal Ball,
Omens, Numerology, Palmistry, Tea Leaves, Tarot and Throwing Sticks,
and discuss how each system works and why.
During the week the group will have opportunities to make individual
sets of divining tools. In doing so each person will create their own
meanings for the colors, shapes, and directions. Materials are provided
as part of the class.
Nybor is an artist,
healer, teacher, pastoral counselor, theorist, self-taught ritual
magician and, with Elspeth, co-founder of the Haven Community. His art
has appeared in Science Fiction and Pagan publications. He has been
named Pagan Artist of the Year several times. He has recently completed
the Nybor Tarot Deck, a 30- plus year project to produce a divination
deck more in line with modern society and thought. His next project is
a illustrated book of Goddesses.
As
a
ritual magician he is working on a theory of spiritually,
revealing a new way of looking at the world that incorporates all
systems of Magick.
He
has
been named Elder in several communities as well as for
various Guardian groups, and as such is available to the community as a
resource. He lives in West Virginia with his wife and soul mate
Elspeth, a cat called Solstice and an electronic entity called Mac. |
Crow's
offering for Teach at the Beach is Shamanic
Cosmologies.
We will begin with a ceremony of the cosmos,
centering us together at the place where we will do this work of
exploration, experience, and learning.
Following the ceremony will be a period of
description and discussion including looking at several tribal
experiences of the universe, and a chance to talk about our own
personal perceptions of the cosmos as they have come to us in
journeying, in ceremony, and in ordinary life.
As the day develops, we will do a great deal of
shamanic journeywork to explore ways of experiencing the cosmos
different from those we are accustomed to. Each journey will be
accompanied by the key question: "How is this new perception useful to
me?"
The day will end with a closing ceremony to ground
and bring us back to center.
This teaching is based on recent research by Crow as
reported in the Church of Earth Healing Newsletter, Special Edition Shamanic
Cosmologies, January 2010.
Students are requested to read the Newsletter
material in preparation for the teaching; hardcopy of this material
will be provided on site. Also useful is Nybor's material from Teach at the Beach 2009, for this
material contact <nyborart@comcast.net>
To fully enjoy this day together requires prior
knowledge and experience with shamanic journeying, especially to Upper,
Middle, and Lower Worlds. If you plan to attend this day with
Crow and do not know how to journey shamanically, please contact him
immediately at crow@church-of-earth-healing.org

Bekki's offering for Teach at the Beach is Feeding The Mother of All Things
In earth-spiritual traditions both ancient and
modern, the power and divinity of nature is honored; the earth
and the waters of the earth in their female aspect are often seen as
our mother.
Using ritual, lecture and discussion, shamanic journeywork and other
means we explore our relationship to this life-giving feminine force
and our role as caregivers to the Creation which gave us birth and
sustains life.
In journeying we engage with the world of the ancestors to effect
healing of the human disconnection from nature and our wounds of
disempowerment. We celebrate the ancestors and the Mother of All Things
through ceremony, seeking ways to heal the earth.
SHAMANIC JOURNEYING IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THIS WORKSHOP. IF
UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS TECHNIQUE, CONTACT BEKKI :
